Efficiency: Due to the excellent cooling effect provided by insulating oil, the internal winding temperature of the transformer is effectively controlled, thereby improving the operational efficiency of the transformer.
Reliability: The insulating oil plays a good insulation role inside the transformer, effectively isolating the winding and preventing faults such as arcing and discharge. At the same time, insulating oil can also stabilize the temperature, prevent transformer overheating, and thus improve the service life of equipment.
Safety: Due to the excellent insulation performance of insulating oil, it can prevent electric shock accidents to a certain extent. Meanwhile, oil immersed transformers are usually equipped with comprehensive safety protection measures, such as overload protection, short circuit protection, etc.
Disadvantages:
Oil leakage problem: Once a transformer experiences oil leakage, it will reduce the amount of oil and affect the normal operation of the transformer. Oil leakage may not only cause equipment failure, but also pollution to the environment.
Oil aging: As the transformer is used for a longer period of time, the insulation oil will gradually age, leading to a decrease in its insulation performance. Oil aging may cause internal faults such as discharge and short circuit in transformers.
Large footprint: Due to the need to accommodate a large amount of insulating oil and transformer body, oil immersed transformers have certain limitations in space utilization.
Environmental issues: Transformer oil is a petroleum based liquid with the possibility of combustion, therefore it has certain drawbacks in terms of environmental protection.
